Spatiotemporal Mode-Locking in Lasers with Large Modal Dispersion

چکیده
Dissipative nonlinear wave dynamics have been investigated extensively in mode-locked lasers with single transverse-mode, whereas there are few studies related to three-dimensional within lasers. Recently, spatiotemporal mode-locking (STML) was proposed small modal (i.e., transverse-mode) dispersion, which has considered be critical for achieving STML those cavities because the dispersion can easily balanced. Here, we demonstrate that also achieved multimode much larger where find intracavity saturable absorber plays an important role counteracting large dispersion. Furthermore, observe a new phenomenon of passive auto-selection single-mode mode-locking, resulting from interaction between absorption and spatial gain competition. Our work significantly broadens design possibilities useful thus making them more accessible applications, extends explorable parameter space novel dissipative these

Spatiotemporal mode-locking in multimode fiber lasers.
A laser is based on the electromagnetic modes of its resonator, which provides the feedback required for oscillation. Enormous progress has been made toward controlling the interactions of longitudinal modes in lasers with a single transverse mode. For example, the field of ultrafast science has been built on lasers that lock many longitudinal modes together to form ultrashort light pulses. How...
متن کاملActive Mode Locking With Hybrid Lasers
We present the results of a numerical study of active mode locking with hybrid lasers which contain an inhomogeneously broadened laser medium and a homogeneously broadened laser medium. The spectral, pulse, and gain characteristics of actively mode-locked hybrid lasers and the influence of the unsaturated gain, the saturation power, and the homogeneous linewidth on the pulse coherence and bandw...
متن کاملSolitons in dispersion-managed mode-locked lasers
The dynamics and propagation of ultrashort optical pulses generated in mode-locked lasers are investigated. The mode locking process depends crucially on the gain and loss mechanisms inside the cavity. Analytical models are introduced that include dispersion management and gain-loss terms with energy and power saturation. Comparisons of the pulse dynamics with previously well-known models are d...
متن کاملMode-Locking Ultrafast Solid-State Lasers with Saturable Bragg Reflectors
We discuss mode-locking of low-gain solid-state lasers using a semiconductor saturable Bragg reflector structure. This recently developed low-loss mode-locking device consists of a single quantum well which acts as a saturable absorber incorporated into a high-reflectivity Bragg mirror. Highly stable mode-locking in solid-state lasers results from an ultrafast transient reflectivity in the devi...

Status – Generation of stable pulse trains is important for numerous laser applications where ultrashort optical pulses are needed. Yet, increasing demand for pulses with more extreme characteristics has shifted the focus towards highly nonlinear, non-stationary regimes of laser operation. Of particular interest is the study of the chaotic pulses generated by passively mode-locked lasers. Being...
